President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a high-powered Federal Government delegation, led by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to represent Nigeria at the maiden Nigeria Diaspora Investment and Economic Conference (NIDEC 2026) in Toronto, Canada.
The conference, themed "Invest Nigeria, Thrive Abroad," is scheduled to hold from August 12 to 15 and is expected to promote investment, expand trade opportunities and strengthen economic cooperation between Nigeria and Canada.
According to a statement issued by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), the conference is designed to bring together members of the Nigerian diaspora, government officials, investors and business leaders to explore opportunities across key sectors of the Nigerian economy.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the calibre of the Nigerian delegation reflects President Tinubu's commitment to deepening trade, investment and economic cooperation with Canada. She noted that the conference is expected to facilitate partnerships capable of driving economic growth and attracting foreign direct investment into Nigeria.
The Federal Government said the event will provide a platform to showcase Nigeria's investment potential while encouraging stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors, as well as Nigerians in the diaspora. Discussions are expected to focus on investment, innovation, trade and sustainable economic development.
The Nigerian delegation is expected to include senior government officials, ministers, state governors and heads of strategic agencies, alongside Canadian government representatives, investors and business executives, as both countries seek to strengthen bilateral economic and commercial relations.
