The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has said the findings from its investigation into the alleged Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) will serve as a foundation for strengthening anti-corruption measures and improving institutional accountability across the public sector.


The commission explained that beyond addressing the immediate allegations surrounding the purported council, the investigation has exposed areas requiring stronger oversight and more effective coordination among government institutions. It noted that closing identified loopholes would help prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

According to the ICPC, government agencies must continue to adopt strict verification procedures for official appointments, letters of introduction and institutional mandates to ensure that only duly authorised documents are recognised. The commission said such measures would reduce opportunities for fraudsters to exploit the names of public institutions for personal benefit.

The anti-graft agency further emphasised that preserving the credibility of government institutions remains a national priority, stressing that any attempt to forge official documents or falsely claim government authority undermines public trust and damages the reputation of the public service.

The commission added that the investigation reinforces the importance of cooperation between anti-corruption agencies, security organisations and regulatory bodies in tackling complex cases involving document forgery, impersonation and abuse of public office. It said stronger collaboration would improve the speed and effectiveness of future investigations.

ICPC also encouraged citizens, investors and organisations to verify the authenticity of government agencies and public officials through appropriate channels before entering into partnerships or financial commitments. The commission noted that public vigilance is an important tool in preventing fraudulent activities carried out under the guise of government authority.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and the rule of law, the ICPC said it would continue to pursue all lawful measures necessary to ensure accountability while supporting reforms aimed at protecting the integrity of Nigeria's public institutions. The commission added that any further action arising from the investigation would be taken in accordance with due legal process.
